Everything an international student needs to apply to Egyptian universities: accepted certificates, required documents at each stage, fees, how equivalency is calculated, and minimum admission grades.
Secondary certificate or equivalent
If your certificate was issued outside Egypt, it must be “equated” and approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education.
Accepted certificates
- Sudanese certificate.
- Egyptian certificate.
- Arab certificates (Gulf countries).
- American Diploma.
- British certificate (IGCSE).
Documents required for a Bachelor’s degree
Documents are submitted in two stages:
Stage 1: initial application
- Copy of your passport.
- Copy of your certificate.
- Copies of your parents’ passports (or their details).
- Personal photo with a white background (4×6).
- Copy of your birth certificate (or national ID number).
- Your ten study choices.
- International application fee: $172.
Stage 2: after initial admission
- Original certificate “attested by the Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian Embassy”.
- Original birth certificate or national ID.
- 6 personal photos.
- Power of attorney to complete the procedures.

How equivalency is calculated
The grades of all subjects except Islamic Education are added together and divided by the number of subjects.
Documents required for Master’s and PhD
- Original graduation certificate.
- Original detailed transcript.
- Original internship certificate (for medical majors).
- Power of attorney.
- Copy of your passport.
- 6 personal photos.
University degree equivalency
Equivalency is issued by the Supreme Council of Universities. The cost depends on the university: $300 for private universities and EGP 600 for public universities.
